17.May.12 Love to run? See how they do it in Bekoji

A fascinating new film about the Ethiopian town of Bekoji from where an incredible amount of the world's top distance runners have emerged is out later this month.

Many of the world’s greatest runners hail from the remote town in the southern highlands of Ethiopia. In the Beijing Olympics, runners from the Bekoji won all four gold medals in the long distance track events - more medals than most industrial countries!

TOWN OF RUNNERS is a feature documentary by an award-winning director Jerry Rothwell about the young athletes born and raised in Bekoji, who hope to emulate their local heroes and compete on the world’s stage. Filmed over four years, the film follows their fortunes as they move from school track to national competition and from childhood to adulthood.

Audiences have been loving Town of Runners since it hit UK cinemas last month. Coach Eshetu even came to London for a visit!

Check out The Guardian's video-review: "As we head toward the Olympics, Town of Runners couldn't be more relevant".
